Knotted’s first store in Busan is located on Gwangnam-ro in Haeundae, a bustling area filled with tourists. However, the existing three-story building, formerly occupied by a coffee brand, felt dark and confined despite its central location. To reflect Knotted’s vibrant energy, childlike excitement, and boldness, the project focused on three key strategies: maximizing natural light, expanding the hazardous existing stairwell, and creating an impressive façade.
With each floor boasting over 3 meters in height, the design envisioned an engaging experience for visitors as they move through the three levels. A primary design feature is a pink slide-like mass inspired by Knotted’s signature brand color. A custom-made circular staircase, entirely crafted from metal with an organic, irregular form, serves as an iconic centerpiece.
The façade was simplified by refining the existing structure and layering it with a metal cross-panel "mask." Knotted’s witty brand message, “This box will make you smile”—a nod to both the product packaging and the building’s box-like structure—is displayed prominently, adding charm to the signage.
The project aimed to create a memorable landmark in Haeundae, combining fun and boldness to offer visitors an unforgettable and joyful experience.
